Ikea Adventure
(Photo from www.brno.avionshoppingpark.cz) Another milestone today. I went to Ikea. Big deal, right? In the states, you just hop into your car and drive to Ikea. Everything's in English, and you are only limited in the quantity of what you buy (not mentioning budget) by what you can stuff in the car.
Oh, no, no, no. Not here. First of all, you got to figure out what bus or tram you are going to take and where to catch it. Actually, this is not as hard as it is in the states - even with the language barrier. You walk in and everything is in Czech. Is what I'm holding a flat sheet or a bottom sheet? I don't know! How much is 399 CZK? Let's see - hmmm, multiply by .047, no, wait, divide by 21. Ok, now I'm in check out. What? You have to buy your own bag to carry your stuff? Ok, how much? Man, all these people are staring at me - hey, sorry to be holding things up here. I know, I know, this is your country, and I should be speaking Czech. Sorry. All right, off to the bus. Its easier this time, because I asked some English speaking people where the departing stop is - otherwise, I would of stood at the incoming stop and had the bus driver yell at me to get off. Now, I push my way in, oops, sorry, hello! Man, this bag is heavy. Ah, a seat. Ok, short bus ride, get off at the right stop or I'm screwed. I get off and walk 500 meters to the main train station... catch number 8 tram... push my way on, oops, sorry, hey! whoa! the tram takes off to quick and I almost fall. 4 stops later, I'm there. 5 flights of stairs and back at the flat. 3 hours later. and 2505 CZK later - which is about $117.00. Not bad. I got a huge comforter with cover and 3 pillow cases, sheets, 2 pillows, a towel, 15 clothes hangers, and a mattress pad.
Another day, another adventure. Me and my two trusty stallions, ruffy and fido, you know, my dogs, my feet? Ha!
I'm gonna go have a pivo. Yak se matse.
