How I got to Brno, CZ
Picture shows my parents' home in San Marcos, TX)
This is my 15th day in the Czech Republic. I left Austin, TX on the 6th and arrive in Vienna on the 7th and then a 45 minute puddle hopper to Prague. I took a shuttle from the Prague airport to the "Student Agency" (largest bus service in cz) bus terminal. Two and a half hour bus trip to Brno old bus station on the south part of downtown and took a cab to the Amphone Hotel (that Natek Agency reserved for me) on the north part of Brno.
I was exhausted and glad to get into a room. A very small room, in fact, it seems everything here is tight. I spent a week in the Amphone hotel when Anca at Natek hooked me up with a Romanian - Bogdan Bolos. We hit it off right away when we met at the IBM Technology Park in Anca's office. We hooked up the next day, Feb. 14, at the flat. It is definitely from the communist era, but comfortable and warm with a good loft bed for me. Small bathroom and kitchen and a small separate toilet. So, Bogdan and I took the tram to the Amphone hotel and I checked out. He helped me with my bags over to the flat (we took a cab) and I've been there since. The past 2 weeks, I've been going to class away from the Technology Park, so, its been tram 8 all the way. - tu

Hi Tom,
I have been offered a Job in BRNO,Czech for IBM.
Can you tell me what is the expenditue like ?
is it a costly place to live... I have been offered around 900 Euros.
Is it a safe place to live ?
Thanks looking fwd to your advice,,,
I don't think that is enough money. They take 30% out for taxes, etc... total. 900euros is about 25,000CZK. I would ask for at least 35,000CZK. Here is a site that I used to research. It has forums where people answer questions about moving and living in CZ. They even have detailed budgets to show the cost of living here. Its at http://www.expats.cz/
For example, you can find flats as cheap as 6,000 to 8,000CZK, 1/2 liter of beer cost 20 to 30 CZK, the trams are cheap about 450CZK per month. Flat owners usually require 2 months in advance with 1 being a deposit. I'l have more sources later. Here is a site: http://www.sreality.cz/
Hope this helps.
